A "sexualised" ad for the Queensland Theatre Company's production of Romeo & Juliet has been barred by the Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB) for suggesting paedophilia.

The image, which you can see above, features a young female and male lying on their side in an embrace. The female model, Melanie Zanetti, is 26 years old, but the ASB notes that she "appears to be very young".

The print campaign was created by Brisbane agency BCM. One of the complaints against the ad said: "It actually made me feel ill... the photo is suggestive of paedophilia. I found it shocking."

The ASB's statement read: "The Board considered that the advertisement used a model who appears to be very young in a manner which is suggestive of sexual activity with a man and that there is not an obvious link to a play about young love."

Romeo & Juliet runs at QPAC's Playhouse from April 21-May 13.

You cannot honestly say that BCM didn't look at the ad and know what the reaction would be. its all shock factor, the add was banned but the play made the news.
