They Get Around

Gary Dedman, one half of London club royalty Hoxton Whores, stops travelling and selling his body for money just long enough to get all Q and A with Scene.

You guys churn out new productions almost on a weekly basis. How do you maintain the momentum - surely it can't all be passion, right?

Ninty-nine percent is pure passion with us, if it was possible I’m sure we would release a track a day. Kevin and I have so many new ideas, there's not enough hours in the day to get them all down. The last six months has been a complete turnaround in the studio and we have been head-down on loads more production and remixes.

The Hoxton Whores brand/ style really first came to the dance world's attention through the infamous bootlegs you guys would release. Did you start off making the  remakes as a joke; or did you always have serious plans to break-in to the producing/ DJing worlds?

We never initially had any serious plans but knew we loved making the music and only ever picked tracks close to our hearts from back in the days of dancing … compelling us to do a respectable job! The crazy thing is we were frowned upon for doing what we prefer to call ‘re-edits’, but it seems to be a current trend these days!

You've collaborated with the Gold Coast's very own party lads, The Stafford Brothers, on a couple of joints; any plans for future collabs with the brothers, or in fact any other Australian artists?

Yes we've got a couple more tracks in the pipeline with the Staffords, a follow up to ‘Wherever’ called ‘Love Lasts Forever’, again with Frank Stafford on vocals and a tough underground track called ‘Tonight’, both out very soon. Also on our radar is Bass Kleph and we're in the motions of completing a fresh project  called ‘Depth Charge’, which seems to be getting a lot of interest over here.

Speaking of our sunburnt island, you're out here again in early February; do you ever tire of the ceaseless grind of a travelling DJ?

It's madness because we both love traveling and it's always great to venture out and about for all those new experiences. The bit we hate most is missing flights and being caught in airports with hangovers!!

Catch The Hoxton Whores at The Met February 12.
