SLEEPWALKER
No Sleep Til Brisbane is a new festival for those made of sterner stuff. Seminal thrash-metal gods Megadeth (performing ‘Rust In Peace’ in its entirety!) go hard or go home at RNA Showgrounds on Sunday December 19 with NOFX, Dropkick Murphys, Parkway Drive, Descendents, A Day To Remember, Gwar, Alkaline Trio, Katatonia, Atreyu, Frenzal Rhomb, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes and more.

AGE OF AQUARIUS
As you no doubt already know, it’s been 37 years since the Aquarius Festival, a counter-culture arts and music festival nestled in the serene rainforests of Nimbin. This year’s Nimbin Music Festival brings back the spirit of that festival with Regurgitator, Bob Log III, Diana Anaid, Grant Walmsley & The Agents Of Peace, A French Butler Called Smith, Transvaal Diamond Syndicate, The Oceanics and loads more at Nimbin Showground from October 2-3.

THE GLOBAL
Famous for his fiery fusion of funk, rock and blues (and his love of alliteration), Senegal’s Baaba Maal has long been hailed as one of West Africa’s greatest artists. His phenomenal voice and stage show headlines Bellingen Global Carnival from October 1-3 with Mulatu Astatke, Lulo Reinhardt, Gyuto Monks, Diego Guerrero Flamenco Latin Quintet, Ego Lemos, Ash Grunwald, The Bamboos, Vulgargrad, Grrilla Step and more.

EPIC FAIL
Brisbane troubadour Scott Spark sings about shift work, strategies for outsmarting death and life’s variety of fuck-ups on debut LP ‘Fail Like You Mean It’. It’s out September 3; learn the songs before he plays The Zoo on Friday October 8 with Big Strong Brute and Inland Sea.

ALL JAZZ HANDS ON DECK
The fourth annual Brisbane Jazz Festival celebrates the voices of jazz in 2010, including Grammy winner Kurt Elling, modern day Sinatra Sachal Vasandani, Sara Serpa, Mulatu Astatke And The Black Jesus Experience, Mark Isaacs and the James Muller Quartet. Take the bassline for a walk at Brisbane Powerhouse from October 21-24.

BIGGER THAN THE MONEY
Clare Bowditch has been announced to support legendary Canadian troubadour Leonard Cohen. The two will compare mythologies at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday November 6.

THE HUNGER
Hungry Kids Of Hungary are set to do you a solid, putting your collection of their singles (‘Scattered Diamonds’, ‘Set It Right’, ‘Let You Down’ and ‘Wristwatch’) in order and throwing in a few new tracks to boot on debut LP ‘Escapades’. It’s out October 1; they’ll launch it at The Hi-Fi on Thursday September 30 with Big Scary and Ball Park Music.

LITTLE HAVANA
Cool drinks, hot nights and pulsing rhythms and beats are the order of the day at Brisbane Festival’s Havana Club, modelled on the legendary Havanan music bars that served the likes of Brando, Monroe, Hemingway and the stars of ‘Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights’. Hot Mambo and DJ Cubanito kick off proceedings at QPAC’s Cascade Court this Wednesday September 8.

UNCHAINED MELODICS

‘Imagine if INXS replaced Michael Hutchence with Busta Rhymes instead of some whack reality TV douche’, say The Melodics, and you’ll be able to imagine the sound of their new EP, ‘Paint Me Gold’. The new sensations play Bakery Lane for BIGSOUND on Thursday September 9.

THE MESS UP
After a short break, AMP-shortlisted Sydneysiders The Mess Hall will follow their brilliant Splendour set with an equally brilliant show at The Zoo. Get blistered on Friday September 17.
