Brisbane’s newest festival, Creamfields, has had a switch of venues. The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew77, Steve Angello, MSTRKRFT, Ferry Corsten, LMFAO, Dave Clarke and the rest of the Creamfields lineup will now abode at Southern Cross Fields (opposite Brisbane International Airport) on Monday May 3. This will be the first time this site has been used and best of all, there will be no noise restrictions. With early bird tickets already sold out, act fast kids to avoid the waterworks.
Last week we announced Akon, Kelly Rowland and Pitbull were coming to town as part of the Jamfest 2010 tour. Now seven days later, we’re telling you Jay Sean (UK artist signed to the Cash Money label), Grammy Award-winner Sean Paul and Eve (who has a new album slated for a mid-year release) have all been added to the bill. The Brisbane leg, presented by Scene, happens at the RNA Showgrounds April 17.
SAE Institute Brisbane is holding a student showcase evening on Friday March 5, from 5pm till 9pm. SAE’s doors are open to anyone who would love to come check out students presenting works, which they have produced while studying at SAE. Aspiring audio engineers and producers can get a taste of what it's like to study a Diploma of Audio Production, and Certificate III in Electronic Music Production courses. www.sae.edu
Recently in the country for the Big Day Out tour, Groove Armada’s Andy Cato is headed back for a little ole’ Brisbane sunshine - don’t let recent rain fool you, we still are the Sunshine State - at The Met Friday April 9.
Now into its second year, the West End Carnivale is returning in 2010 with a diverse line-up of music, arts, circus performers and workshops. Slated for Souths Leagues Club at Davies Park Saturday May 15, this year’s event, proudly presented by Scene Magazine, will be headlined by The Bamboos, Laneous & The Family Yah, Darky Roots, Dubmarine, Kingfisha, Grassroots St Orchestra, The Rude, Paua and Blind Dog Donnie. DJs Ben Osborne, Boxylucha, Nick One and Lao Mirador will also supply beats.
Industry grapevines are buzzing with a inside talk that Modular Records are currently looking to present the next instalment of V Festival. Stay tuned to see if it’s a persistent rumour or in fact, reality.

2010 is shaping up as a goldmine for local hip hop releases. With The Optimen finally securing a album release date (refer to Beats for more info), now comes news the Gold Coast’s Choose Mics are ready to unleash their debut longplayer. MC Haunts and DJ/ producer Mules will unveil ‘Beggars Can’t Be Choosers’ on April 9 through Formula Recordz/ Obese Records. More on this to follow over the coming weeks.
If you weren’t already aware, The Brisbane Comedy Festival is currently on at the Brisbane Powerhouse (until Sunday March 21). Much like the Winter Olympics, but so much better and funnier, this festival will be over before you know, so grab a ticket now before your funny bone starts calling you names.
What do you get when you cross the turntablist skills of Kid Koala and Dynomite D with the former/ original rhythm section of Wolfmother (Chris Ross and Myles Heskett)? The Slew is what; a six turntable-cum-drums-and-bass beast that will have you panting for breath whilst making shapes that would leave Steve Urkel blushing. That didn’t stop his publicist using it to announce the Los Angeles-based singer’s upcoming Australian tour. In breaking news, apparently Guru, one half of legendary hip hop outfit Gangstarr, has slipped into a coma after suffering a heart attack. This is heavy news for anyone with even a passing interest in hip hop - get well Guru!
