To those unaware of your work - how would you describe the Chris Lake sound?
I really couldn’t say. For a while I guess the industry had me down as an electro producer, but for quite some time, my work has gone from straight-up house, to tech-house and techno, all the way through to cross-over pop music I guess. All I know is I'm having a lot of fun in the studio at the moment and my DJ sets have become a hell of a lot of fun.
What productions are you working on at the moment?
That would be telling right? Nah, just kidding! My label Rising Music has a very exciting (northern) summer ahead; tracks from Sour Grapes, Lys, Rene Amesz and some other big names, plus a couple of pieces I've been working on. We're all totally buzzing! First one's up on Beatport on June 3 I think ... Lake & Lys 'Violins' with two awesome remixes from Sour Grapes - there's a sampler already doing the rounds on Youtube if your readers fancy a listen.
When did you get into podcasting, and why?
I got into it almost a year ago when we decided to get our online shit together. Despite what many may think, there is life after MySpace and we've really been enjoying using social networks and Web 2.0 technology. It actually makes PR and marketing fun!
What do you see as the bigger mark of success for a DJ - scoring a top five track on Beatport, or a top five in dance charts like Billboard?
Ha, good one. Beatport is great isn't it? Such a fresh company, yet it's managed to capture the attention of the whole dance scene. I think it's important - and it translates into sales too, which is obviously a key factor in today’s digital download world. But when you're hitting the top spot in the industry charts like the UK's Music Week and Cool Cuts, or as you mentioned, Billboard, you know you're doing something right on a wider scale, y’know?
