You have the next Late Night Addiction show happening at Monastery this Friday; you’re going old school in that the DJ booth is being moved back to its original position - what other antics are planned for the night? We’ve put a lot of time and thought into this party, wanting to take it away from the norm and make it something very special. I think moving the booth will give it much more of a big event feel rather than a normal club night. Live visuals, incredible lighting and some other cheeky extras that you’ll get to see on the night. Plus we’ll be giving away CDs, tickets to Future Music Festival and our next boat party in April!
The night will also feature The Cut, Chardy and Stellar MC - looking forward to showcasing those guys?
Definitely. We’ve been following them all for a while now and are huge fans of what they do. Chardy has been putting out records for years, but the last 12 months he’s really impressed us with the direction he has taken and the quality of his releases and remixes, especially his last single ‘Because We Can’. Stellar MC is an amazing performer and we’ve actually got her coming up to work in the studio with Baby Gee on one of his next singles as well as for the LNA party. She’s working on one of Krafty Kuts singles as well as her own solo stuff so she’ll definitely bring something special to our show. And with The Cut being part of the LNA crew we couldn’t not have him up. Plus his latest single ‘Pucking Bitch’ is insane; can’t wait to hear him drop it on Friday night!
You're also showcasing the new Pioneer CDJ 2000 at Lightsounds on Saturday arvo - how excited are you by the CDJ 2000?
It’s so impressive. The new features that they have brought to the table with this new model are amazing.
So is this CDJ release going to turn DJing and the industry on its collective head?
Without a doubt. Being able to work off one USB stick that links across multiple players is just nuts; plus all the other features that they have added. I’ve been working with the Traktor Pro Scratch software for the last six months, so I’m stoked to see Pioneer come up with something to challenge it.
Will there be a hands-off component to the showcase, where punters can get a feel of the CDJ 2000?
I’m pretty sure you can drop in and have a play with the CDJs most days. The guys at Lightsounds are really helpful and know there stuff, so drop in and have a chat to them.
You've also started up a label with Benny Electric - what’s the news there?
Benny actually set up the label about 12 months ago and asked me if I wanted to be part of it, and I love working with him so it was a given that I said yes. It’s had a run of great releases so far, but with the two of us working on it and with both of us having different skill sets that we can bring to the table, we’re pumped to build this label into something special, so I’m really excited about working on it with him. As a label we’re always looking for new artists, local and international, but it will also be a way for us to release stuff with the LNA artists and other local artists that are looking for an outlet for their music.
Lastly, you have Future Music at the end of the month; how’s the planning going for that set?
I actually just started working on it the other day. Usually I spend the week prior taking care of my festival sets, which is plenty of time. But for this one, I’m going to be bringing something really special. Four decks, lots of loops and FX, plus lots of re-editing. I’m really looking forward to it!
