A Complete Performer
A maniacal hard dance fiend, born of acid trance and baptised in gabber and schranz, Hellraiser is about to be summoned from the depths of Hades. Or he might just get on a plane from Melbourne.
Beginning his DJ career in the mid nineties, Hellraiser has earned the respect of legions of fans around the country and holds a special place within the Australian rave scene. He’s been there since the inception of hardcore, touring with Dyewitness in 1995 and playing an instrumental part in Melbourne’s first ever Utopia party. Hellraiser's credentials speak for themselves. Not content conquering the Australian hard dance scene, Hellraiser is making his presence felt in Europe too.
“I travel often to Holland to work with Theracords and have toured Zurich and London recently for shows and productions as well as doing a few shows around Australia.â€
One of those shows is ‘Asylum Darkness Reborn’ organised by the merchants of all things brutal, Asylum. In a very short time the guys behind the Asylum nights have established themselves amongst the leaders of Brisbane’s hardcore scene. Hellraiser is clearly excited about getting back to the city that has showed him (and his beloved hardcore) so much support over the years.
“Brisbane pretty much rules it. Sydney is more a happy hardcore-based culture and Melbourne has a good hardcore scene but it is very small.â€
Looking at acts like Proteus or Lab 4, who both have tendencies to climb speaker stacks, light things on fire and generally do all they can to push things into total anarchy, it quickly becomes apparent that hard dance DJs embrace the idea of a theatrical performance, and Hellraiser is no different.
“Basically watching a DJ stand around and touch decks and a mixer is all well and good, but next taking it to the next level like a concert performance, giving the crowd more energy which feeds back to the DJ and continues to build. Onstage presence is very important.â€
Busy in the studio, Hellraiser will be treating the Brisbane audience to some new sounds, with some new influences when he steps up to decks at ‘Asylum Darkness Reborn’.
“More recently I have been getting into industrial and techno sounds and getting more intelligent with producing, using more effects and advanced writing techniques and processes. Very exciting stuff.â€
