The ‘Lying Around Tour’ will introduce fans to the band’s single of the same name, alongside a pile of new tracks from their forthcoming album ‘Nothing On TV’, which will be released in March 2010.
“We’ll play mainly new stuff, the album has been finished for a couple of months so it’s just too hard to let it sit and not road test the tracks.â€
Leading lady Katrina Noorbergen suggests that the new material utilises a fuller range of sounds than their 2008 mini-album ‘We Are’.
“We chose [Lying Around] as the first single because it seemed like a good introduction to our new material. It’s still band heavy but this introduces new sounds like synth.â€
This foray into the electronic end of the musical spectrum is no doubt partly attributed to the involvement of engineer Richard Wilkinson (The Magic Numbers, Hot Chip) and producer/ Van She band member Michael DiFrancesco.
“We were in the studio having a jam with Mikey and it was like a whole new world opened up to us, he has this great collection of vintage synths.â€
The jam sessions that Noorbergen refers to were an important part of a full-on recording period. “Recording the album was such an intensive process. For six months we were in the studio every day except for about four days off and those dates were our shows with Lily Allen. It felt like we hadn’t seen the sunlight in ages, we were living and breathing the studio.â€
Now distanced from the studio, Noorbergen can see the value in the juxtaposition of the recording time with the Lily Allen supports. “I’ll never forget it because they were the biggest stages and biggest shows we’d ever played and because we were recording simultaneously it just felt like the beginning of things for us.â€
Looking ahead to the shows on this particular tour, Noorbergen muses over road testing the tracks in the festival environment.
“[Festivals and headline shows] are both fun for different reasons. With a festival you are almost guaranteed to reach new people who might have heard your name but not your sound. On the other hand when we play our own shows we’re grateful, excited and humbled that people have paid just see us.â€
