BLUEJUICE [21:05:08]
GROWING UP?
After their debut album 'Problems' received both critical and public acclaim, culminating in the lead single 'Vitriol' climbing to number eleven in Triple J's hottest 100, Sydney-based party favourites Bluejuice are on the ball.
“We have definitely been a lot busier,” explains vocalist Jake. “We feel like a real band from our own perspective and from the audiences perspective the increased focus means there's more crowds and we have more responsibilities basically.”
It's this new sense of responsibility, coupled with a new found level of musical maturity that is going to take Bluejuice's music up a notch and hopefully meet the expectations for the bands follow-up album.
“Personally my interest in songwriting has become much more serious in the last year or two and knowing that we have to put out another record in a year or so has meant that we have to get more serious about focusing on that and making it simple or direct,” admits Jake.
This focus has had a humbling effect on the outlook of the group and consequently has helped them come to terms with the fact that they are a pop band. Not only are they happy with this but they are embracing the fact and have started to write some of their music accordingly.
“We are trying to be as honest about (being a pop band) as possible and write the kind of songs that people want to hear from us, I just want to write pop songs that the audience and I like,” explains Jake.
“A lot of the real feeling that I get from music is from pop songs and in the last six months I have sort of just decided 'well if those are the songs that I really like and that's the kind of band we basically are why wouldn't I just try to write a whole album of that?’ I love hearing our songs on the radio, I love them being on the radio and I feel like the best kind of delivery methods, or the things that I'm likely to want to say in this band, are in those songs so that's where the real work is for this band.”
