COSIMA DE VITO [19:12:07] A NEW CHANGE Whilst the majority of her fellow ex-Australian Idolists have fallen by the wayside, Cosima De Vito has continued to enjoy success. Her 2004 debut album and single enjoyed gold and platinum sales and she’s been touring consistently since then. With a new album, ‘This Is Now’ and a new single, she’s hoping to do it all again. “I’ve written most of the tracks on the album myself so it’s definitely a lot more personal than my first record, it’s very different, it has a lot more of a pop rock kind of feel,” she explains between interviews, studio sessions and promo duties. This new feel has seen Cosima replace her soulful, melancholy ballads with more upbeat, dancefloor-geared tracks. The change in direction is evident on the first two singles, ‘Keep it Natural’ and ‘Movin On’. Both feature a variety of club remixes and have done well in the ARIA Dance Charts, receiving continuous rotation in clubs all around the country. “The clubs have come on in a really big way so that’s been really exciting, it’s very different, very poppy, very youthful and very fun,” says Cosima. Since trading her vocal powerhouse performances for more production based dance music, Cosima has received nothing but positive response and success - something that has surprised her given it was never an orchestrated attempt to go for the club market. “I didn’t want to do another album [of] all ballads, I wanted to do something that was a bit different and show another side of me. It was a real surprise because all of a sudden I was in the clubs and I’m hip and I’m young, which really wasn’t the case before, and all of a sudden it has happened and it’s something different and it’s definitely a surprise. It’s very exciting and it’s definitely not where I expected to go but it’s come in a big way. The whole dance thing and the whole genre is something new to me but it’s come along really well, it’s obviously something good and people seem to like it,” says Cosima.
