With an international reputation for uncompromising recordings and live shows, Lyons was originally commissioned to remix, rescore and edit Ridley Scott's seminal film 'Blade Runner' for the UK's Latitude Festival in 2009.
"I did the show, really enjoyed it and had a really good response, but I couldn’t help but think that I could have taken it further," Lyons says. "About a year ago, I started really playing with the film - cutting it up and adding my own parts and seeing how I could create a live experience.
"From that point to where it is now, it has probably taken about six months. I did it on and off, just to keep it fresh and exciting. I didn't want it to become like a job, because I think that really shows in a live setting if the energy has gone from a project."
For Lyons, a musician from the age of 16, the idea of taking film to the stage was more of a natural progression than a calculated artistic effort.
"I had been making music for such a long time that I kind of needed something else in there," he says. "I've always been a very visual person. When I make music, I think of colours and images that go with the sound.
"You have to be able to play live if you're a musician, so when I started making films it didn't really change my approach. I have a musician’s mentality in that if you can't do it live, you're not the real deal."
While 'Zan Lyons vs Blade Runner' may be a good indicator of Lyons' creative abilities, in no way does this latest project define his much-respected body of work.
"The '...vs Blade Runner' shows are only a small part of what I do. My main shows are actually audio visual shows with my own music and my own films."
