“I've been doing music all my life,†she says. “I was playing in a band called Suitcase and then I started writing music. I had some success with a couple of tracks and I realised that maybe I should be thinking about music for a career!â€
Not surprising then that this is the path that has naturally found her. Indeed, the interest in her music surged after that early success and thus her decision between becoming an archeologist or a musician was sealed.
“Well I did quite a bit of touring after the ‘Animal’ release and I was even living in Australia for a while! So then, I started writing a little bit while I was on tour and I met up with a guy called Brian Higgins in England and he suggested that maybe we should work together. That was really the way we started working together with Cinemania and I got the chance to get really into my own songwriting and I was challenged in every way and that was the biggest change from the first album.â€
‘Don't Stop’ is the answer then - the 2010 version of everything she has learnt, embraced and been willing to challenge herself with.
“I stated making music and not really knowing where I would end up; but after a while I realised which direction I wanted to go and I did songs that weren't that club oriented; I did songs like ‘Take You Home’ and ‘Bad Times’, but I also wanted to include a couple of club songs like ‘I Don't Like Your Band’, so I did those as well. It was really an attempt to do a combination of songs, melodies but also that club direction as well, so I think the album has a little bit of both.
“At the moment, we're planning the next few singles and I've also got a remix back on ‘I Don't Like Your Band’, which is great. There will be another single coming out in the USA in the spring; and after that I'll be going on to another tour of Europe and the USA. In the meantime, I'm working on some new songs and I'll be going to France to record them so despite the new album, lots of promotional work and remixes; there is still plenty for me to be doing!â€
As for getting down to Australia to enjoy some sunshine and possibly present her wares, she is hopeful.
“We were actually just talking about it yesterday, so I have my fingers crossed that I can get down there soon! I know Fred Falke was down there over the New Year so I was really jealous! Plus, it's absolutely freezing here in Berlin right now so yes, it would be great to get to Australia!â€
In the meantime, get your paws on the double CD version of ‘Don't Stop’ that also features a five track EP with the tracks ‘All Night’, ‘I Know Ur Girlfriend Hates Me’ (produced by Richard X), ‘Sweet’ (produced by Brian Higgins/ Xenomania), ‘I Can't Let Go’ (with Fredrik Saroea from Datarock on guest vocals) as well as the Richard X produced ‘Antonio’ that was released as a single last year on Richard X`s own label Pleasure Masters.
So finally, is this everything she hoped for in a career in music? “Well I don't know, it's always been for me that I always think about music every day. I have some sort of idea for a song and it’s natural for me; it's something I feel I should be doing and this album is slightly more moody and that might be true - I might have been writing songs when I might not have been in the best mood but it was also cool - that's what I think songwriting is all about!â€
