and preparing to create a storm at Davies Park for the West End Carnivale.
While it was a tricky proposition at times, Laneous is happy with the way that the first LP has turned out and can't wait to get it released, particularly because it's been so long in the making.
“It's great! It was mastered last year and we've been struggling to try and get the artwork done and so we'll be stoked to get it out. It's been a long time coming; we would have started it at the start of last year, I think. In a way it was tough, but in other ways it's incredibly fun and I wish I just had more time because you can do so much if you've got that time to burn in the studio.â€
While Laneous was already turning heads with his improvised gigs a few years ago, things really started to take off when he hooked up with the Family Yah in 2007.
“It all started when I was just doing those improvised gigs, where you'd just get a band together and sing whatever you were feeling at the time over the top. One day we did a gig with the existing line-up as it is today and Positive Serpent (The Family Yah's bass player) said, 'Hey! You should start a rehearsed band where you write stuff’. It was a great idea so I just used the exact same band and we started getting together and everyone had so much passion for it. Everyone in the band is very eclectic so for me it's become a really fun writing tool.â€
While they're looking forward to the album release, Laneous and Yah are currently clearing their schedule on May 9 for what's sure to be an epic West End Carnivale performance.
“Definitely excited,†he chimes. “It's been a while since anything happened in West End in terms of festivals. We'll play all of our most bangin' tunes for sure and produce our usual big-stage performance. We'll have a large section of back-up singers and probably a whole slew of guest MCs no doubt!â€
